WHAT IS SBIRT?
SBIRT is an evidence-based approach to identifying people who use alcohol and other drugs at risky levels or are at risk for a substance use disorder. The process involves screening, a brief evidence-based intervention, and referral to treatment when appropriate.

WHO IS DOING THE TRAINING?
Lyn O’Connell, MA IMFT, is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist and doctoral candidate in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is the clinical coordinator for the SBIRT Program at Marshall University.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Participants will learn about the core elements of SBIRT and how to apply evidence-based scales when screening for substance use and misuse. Participants will also learn motivational interviewing tools and techniques to implement a motivational enhancement Brief Negotiated Interview.
