Three things you should know:

  1. Jefferson County Schools’ first day is  August 21, 2017.
  2. West Virginia requires that all 7th-graders show proof of Tdap and meningococcal vaccination, and 12th-graders show proof of a second meningococcal vaccination.
  3. JCHD is committed to ensuring all students in Jefferson County have the opportunity to get the necessary shots before school, and to minimizing the number of missed school days for any students who are sent home due to missing vaccinations.

We will have walk-in vaccination clinics at the health department between 9:00AM and 7:00PM on August 10, 17,and 24, 2017. Patients who pre-register by submitting their shot records, insurance information, and completed forms at least one week prior to the clinic will have shorter wait times.

What do I need to bring?

Your child’s shot record and insurance card, and parent or guardian’s photo ID. Patients under 18 years of age MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian OR responsible person over 18 with a note from the parent or guardian.

What if my child doesn’t have health insurance / our insurance doesn’t cover vaccines?

West Virginia provides free vaccines for uninsured and underinsured children through the Vaccines for Children Program.

Does my health insurance plan cover _______ vaccine?

It is the policy holder’s responsibility to know their coverage plan. We suggest you call your insurance company at the number on the back of your insurance card.

Will you offer any other vaccines besides Tdap and meningococcal on walk-in days?

Yes, we will be able to give your child any vaccines they need for school, as well as CDC recommended vaccines like HPV and Meningococcal B.

I think my child’s immunizations are up-to-date, but I’m not sure. Can you check for me?

Yes, send us their shot record – our nursing staff will review it and contact you about any shots that are required or recommended.

Can I make an appointment instead of coming to the walk-in clinic?

Yes, but our appointment book is filling up fast. Call 304-728-8416 and ask for the clinical office.
As of 7/28/17 there are no more appointments available before school starts.
